Pastor
Jesse Curney, III preacher, motivator, teacher and entrepreneur, is the Senior
Pastor of New Mercies Christian Church, and a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He
accepted his calling in 1987, and became an Associate Minister at New Birth
Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia where Bishop Eddie L. Long is the
Senior Pastor. From the onset, he concentrated his efforts on growing the
church's Youth Department. As a result of his dedication, he was chosen to
serve as full-time minister of the Youth Department and Ministerial advisor of
the Youth Ministry Staff in 1991.
While devoted to developing a fruitful Youth Ministry, Pastor Curney was
appointed Assistant Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in 1996. As
Assistant Pastor, he became the Executive Director of the Education Ministry,
Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Children's Ministry and Evangelism Ministry. In
addition, he became CEO of Project Impact; New Birth's first time juvenile
offender program. He also developed the most effective national youth
conference known as The Movement (formerly known as G.A.N.G - God’s Anointed
New Generation).
This awesome visionary of God is well admired by many for his outstanding
integrity. As a daily guide, Pastor Curney challenges himself to walk in true
obedience to God's word. Never professing to be a self-made man, Pastor Curney
emulates the fine example of being a hard worker, provider, husband and father,
as he witnessed in his grandfather Jesse Curney, Sr. and in his spiritual
father Bishop Eddie L. Long.
Pastor Curney believes in his heart that in order to become an effective leader,
one must first be an effective servant. Pastor Curney embraces his role as a
leader for the people of God. Seeing all that God has done and is doing keeps
this awesome man of God humble. He watches as God's prophecies are being
fulfilled in his life, and it reminds him that he is simply a vessel but God is
the Reservoir. That explains why New Mercies Christian Church is readily
becoming one of the fastest growing churches in Atlanta. The current membership
at New Mercies Christian Church has already reached well over 7,000. New
Mercies has become a beacon in Gwinnett County, a place where hurting people
who are seeking a fresh word can come and hear the truth of God’s word.
Pastor Curney is one of the most exciting, respected ministers in the country
today, who has conducted workshops internationally. He is a graduate of both
Beulah Heights Bible College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Education and
Luther Rice University with a Master of Arts in Ministry and a Masters of
Divinity. Pastor Curney is also a recipient of numerous community awards; this
dynamic speaker is truly on a mission for the Lord.
Pastor Curney’s preaching style is not anything unique or different. It’s a
style that loves to celebrate God and is very transparent. He’s not ashamed to
share his pain or failures because he knows what the Lord has brought him
through. Therefore, his transparent teaching style celebrates the goodness of
the Lord.
Pastor Curney stays active by coaching men's softball, youth baseball and
football. He is also an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Decatur Alumni and
their Guide Rite Program. He also serves as Chaplain for the Kappa Alpha Psi,
Decatur Alumni and S.W. Dekalb High School football team. When he’s able to
unwind he does so by reading, spending time with his family and every now and
then he travels to the mountains or the nearest ocean for sabbatical. This
sabbatical period allows him to calm down and helps him focus on God and what
He has purposed for him to do for the advancement of His kingdom.
Pastor Curney and his lovely wife Aleana, are the proud parents of Jesse IV,
Jiana and Jene'. The family resides in Lithonia, Georgia.
